I think I remember either Top Gear, or The Gadget Show, here in the UK, doing something about this. It wasn’t cloaking exactly, but they managed to make a car “vanish” in a forest, by using a series of mirrors and cameras mounted on the car. Even so, you could see a rippling effect as the car moved through the trees, but, since cloaking is fictional, it was pretty close! They used mirrors to reflect the light, and the cameras to play images of the surrounding trees, to make it look like nothing was there.

You’re absolutely right. This is also why they prefer to fly during the night- it’s tricky to work the invisibility cloak with the sun shining down. Scientists on Earth are trying to come up with an invisibility cloak of their own, but the ones we have right now are not that big and not that good.

It could be true.

What would happen is you would have little detectors that pick up light (like a camera) and project it on the other side of the object, so that you see through it. It wouldn’t be perfect, though, it be more like a disturbance rather than true invisibility, like an object made out of glass, but worse and more angled.

Odds are the CIA or USAF is experimenting with the idea, probably at the groom lake AFB(Area 51), although I could see it operating like the active camofauge on James Bond’s Aston Martin Vanquish from Die Another Day
